GLOBE SHOES: THE HISTORY OF THE AUSTRALIAN BRAND

The Globe Skateboards brand was officially founded in the 1980s with the opening of a distribution center dedicated to selling skateboarding and street fashion products.

The two brothers and then-Australian skateboarding champions, Peter and Steven Hill, along with their brother Matt Hill, went on to create one of the largest skateboard distribution centers in the world in the years that followed.

GLOBE BRAND SHOES: AUSTRALIA AT THE CENTER OF THE WORLD

In 1987, a new company, “Die Hard Pty Ltd,” was founded to diversify the various businesses emerging within the company.

Globe became the manufacturer for brands like “Vision Streetwear”—who doesn’t remember that legendary brand and its skate shoes from the late ’80s?

In addition to Vision Street Wear, the company has since licensed brands such as Stussy, Frehjive, Ecko Unlimited, and Paul Frank.

At the same time, during those years, the three partners continued to promote the culture through contests, products, skate videos, and amazing innovations.

The history of the Globe Skateboards brand began precisely in the 1990s, more specifically in 1994 in Australia, when the three brothers decided to launch the brand. Matt, Stephen, and Peter Hill started out in the early years producing surf products, but after just a few years, they shifted their focus toward skateboarding.

Since then, the skateboarding industry has had a new brand that would make a name for itself worldwide for decades, and it is no coincidence that even today Globe is a company that manufactures and sells globally.

GLOBE SHOES AND THE RISE TO SUCCESS

Since the 1990s, following its founding, the brand began conquering the market across multiple countries and continents, and within just two years, it already had distribution in Torrance, California, and in France.

With America and Europe already covered, the first products began to be distributed on a large scale.

In 1995, the team consisted of two Australians, Al Boglio and Andrew Currie, who raised the brand’s profile nationally. But for Globe, that wasn’t enough, so they decided to emulate the major skateboard brands and form an international team, which gave the Australian brand the boost it needed to reach other continents.

That was when legends Rodney Mullen and Chet Thomas joined the team, and it was then that the two pro models hit the market and became a huge success.

In those years, the two Globe Skateboards pro models were the most technologically advanced skate shoes available on the market.

GLOBE SHOES WITH NITROCELL TECHNOLOGY

Sizes were indicated with Roman numerals, and the amazing, high-tech “nitrocel” sole with air cushioning was absolutely innovative.

The entire shoe was incredibly far ahead of its competitors for that time, and from that moment on, Globe shoes were sought after all over the world.

And after such a start, it’s no surprise that in just a few years, Globe became a global giant.

In 2000, the brand began sponsoring major events such as the World Skateboarding Championships in Dortmund, Germany, for skaters from all over the world. That event in Dortmund was the highlight of the year.

The entire community eagerly awaited that event, and for the brand, it was always a massive marketing opportunity. Pro skaters from all over the world gathered to create a one-of-a-kind skateboarding competition.

Brazilians, Americans, Japanese, and of course the entire European pro skateboarding scene were in attendance.

GLOBE BRAND: GLOBAL SUCCESS

Globe Skateboards grew stronger and stronger; sales soared, and the management decided to establish “Globe International.”

From that moment on, a decade of success began, featuring videos, killer team riders, organized contests, and ever-rising sales.

In 2010, the company began producing full-range skateboards with all kinds of hardware; subsequently, Globe sold the “Dwindle” group and embarked on another climb to success by personally overseeing its production in China.

Globe develops high-quality skateboarding products and a unique clothing line.

After years of experience, the brand collaborates with the world’s best partners to create exclusive collaborations. These creations have been successful worldwide with major brands such as G-Shock and Thrasher Magazine.
