THE FOUNDING OF THE BRAND IN THE 90s WITH DAMON WAY

The company was founded in June 1994 by Damon Way and Ken Block. Damon Way is the brother of pro skateboarder Danny Way.

The two brothers started skating together in the early 80s.

Damon’s career was always fraught with accidents, and his dream of becoming a pro skater proved increasingly difficult. One fall in particular cut short his career and led him to explore other avenues. Together with his friend and snowboarder Ken Block, in 1991 they founded the distribution company “The Eightball and Circus Distribution.”

From this distribution, the first products and brands began to emerge; under the names “Droors Clothing” and “Blunt Magazine,” they started outfitting American skateboarders and snowboarders alike.

Droors became a super-fresh and viral brand within a few years. Shortly thereafter, the Droors brand was replaced by “DC,” which began to take shape in 1994.

THE GLOBAL SUCCESS OF THE CALIFORNIAN BRAND

Immediately after its launch, the brand saw incredible sell-outs, and founder Damon Way grew the small, fledgling brand into an empire in just ten years, driving revenue past $100 million.

In 2004, DC Shoes was acquired by Quiksilver for the astronomical sum of $87 million. The entire team moved to a new headquarters in another California location, where they began shaping the business as it stands today. Now established and solid in the market, the brand sells worldwide.

It is active in all action sports but always finds its solid roots in skateboarding. In 2010, the video titled “Skateboarding is Forever” was released, featuring all the team’s athletes—a truly strong lineup at the time thanks to skaters like Matt Miller, Evan Smith, Wes Kremer, and many others.

The team has continuously evolved from 2010 to the present. The world’s best skaters have skated for DC Shoes, including Nyjah Huston, Felipe Gustavo, Mike Taylor, Mike Mo Capaldi, Chris Cole, Steve Berra, Rob Dirdek, and Josh Kalis.
