BAKER SKATEBOARDS: THE BOSS’S BRAND

There’s no doubt who the skater behind Baker Skateboards is—it’s definitely Andrew Reynolds. Reynolds, who had always been part of Birdhouse, needed to build something new for himself. Andrew Reynolds has always been a rebellious skater, and at Birdhouse, there were perhaps too many rules to follow.

One evening in late 1999, during a meeting between Tony Hawk, Per Welinder, and Andrew Reynolds, the decision was made to launch Baker Skateboards—finally a brand that reflected the nature and spirit of the boss.

Reynolds started Baker without his co-founder J. Strickland, the man who later created the Baker logo that still best represents the brand today.

In 2007, Baker began being distributed by Blitz Distribution, the company that distributed Birdhouse and other brands of the era such as Hook-Ups and Fury. Under Blitz’s distribution, Baker became the top-selling brand, and its popularity grew rapidly across the globe.

In 2009, pro rider Leo Romero left Baker Skateboards, a decision that caused quite a stir at the time; Leo Romero was subsequently named Skater of the Year by Thrasher Magazine in 2010.

THE FOUNDING OF BAKER BOYS DISTRIBUTION

Later, in 2011, Baker Boys Distribution was founded by Jim Greco, Eric Ellington, and Andrew Reynolds, and from that moment on, Baker became an increasingly independent company run by legendary skaters who continued to invest in the team and in powerful, stylish skaters capable of wowing crowds with heavy and difficult tricks.

Subsequently, the Deathwish Skateboard brand joined the Baker Boys Distribution family—a brand inspired by 1980s cult films. The gang logo resembles that of a famous New York gang.

The attitude of Baker and the Baker Boys has always been one of a laid-back, party atmosphere, and for years, friends and unofficial teams have always been in close contact with Baker. Skaters like Dustin Dollin, Ali Boulala, and Erick Hellington.

The Piss and Drunk Crew was their name, and in those years they toured the States and the world doing the craziest things and landing insane tricks while completely drunk and high.

The boss, Andrew Reynolds, completely changed his life and embarked on a sober path with healthy food and good habits. The vibe is still free and laid-back, but at least the boss always stays focused on the business at hand.

Today, Baker and its team inspire dreams and is undoubtedly one of the most sought-after skateboard brands; their boards, if you notice, are very sleek and feature a lightweight yet sturdy construction. Riding a Baker board is definitely different from the others, and you can immediately feel the difference under your feet.

THE CULT VIDEOS OF BAKER SKATEBOARDS

The videos shot by Baker Skateboards have always stood out thanks to Andrew Reynolds’ skill as a director. The skate films that have most defined and represented Baker are “Baker 2G” and “Baker 3.”

Recently, the team released the “Baker 4” video, which literally changed the game in skateboarding. The filmmaker behind all of Baker’s video work is Ryan Ewing, a famous and highly talented filmmaker who has collaborated with Reynolds’ brand.

“Baker 4” crowned Rowan Zilla and Kader Sylla as pros.

“Baker 4” established the new team that is still making waves around the world today. It marked the debut for Jacopo Carozzi, who immediately turned pro after Baker 4 and joined the official team.

The team consists of Sammy Baca, Kader Sylla, Tyson Peterson, Justin Figgy Figueroa, Kevin “Spanky” Long, Riley Hawk, Rowan Zorilla, Theotis Beasley, and Dustin Dollin.

MILAN CENTRAL, CAROZZI, AND THE BAKER BOYS

Lately, Milan has become the center of European skateboarding, and many crews pass through Milan to skate all the spots the city has to offer.

Milan Central Station is one example; the Baker team spent many days in Milan, and even today you can still see them very often hitting the city’s spots.

The absolute best Italian skater is undoubtedly Jacopo Carozzi, who has conquered the world with his skateboarding and is now a Baker Pro like never before!

ANDREW REYNOLDS: THE BOSS OF BAKER SKATEBOARDS

Andrew Reynolds, “the boss,” is not only the brand’s founder but also a pro skater who continues to tour with the team’s younger pros.

The boss is undoubtedly one of the American street skaters who revolutionized the way we think about skateboarding. Anyone who remembers his frontside kickflips knows exactly what I’m talking about.

Baker Skateboards also boasts numerous collaborations with major artists; every collection features striking and iconic graphics.

Andrew Reynolds is the one who took street skating to the next level; his long-time sponsors are Independent Trucks and Emerica, which launched his pro model shoe over 10 years ago.

The Reynolds Emerica has been a global sensation for many years, but recently the pro skater announced to the world that he would be leaving Emerica to join Vans Shoes.

Now, a few years later, the American skater is joining the New Balance team with some very fresh prospects!

Reynolds began his career in the early ’90s and was spotted by

Tony Hawk, who brought him onto the Birdhouse team. During his teenage years, Andrew struggled with drug and alcohol abuse but made the responsible decision to turn his life around and understand what was tormenting him and driving him to uncontrolled substance abuse—which also affected his skating.

Andrew Reynolds kicked his drug and alcohol habits and became a role model for everyone; to this day, he remains a skater of exceptional quality, and his style and FS flips are legendary worldwide.
